Entertainment Schedule

The Taste of Randolph Street is known for its incredible food and awesome entertainment. This season promises to be even more memorable than any other season. The West Loop Community Organization and StarEvents have teamed up to provide a 3-day Festival that will raise the bar for all summer festivals – around the globe.

We carefully scoured the planet to find some of the best talent to be showcased on our main stage. After months of hard work… we came up with an incredible line-up of world-class acts… but the list was too long. Our solution was to add a 2nd main stage and double the fun for everyone.

Now the attendees will be able to get twice the bang for the buck at Taste of Randolph Street Festival. We are proud to announce the 2010 line-up and can’t wait to enjoy Chicago’s Best Street Festival. Mark your calendars – and get ready to ROCK!

Lovehammers 8:30 pm

Marty Casey

Heartfelt rock and roll can still thrive – an inimitable and unpretentious sound, Chicago’s homegrown heroes punch out thought-provoking, hook-injected music that is long on hooks and incendiary riffs.

Matthew Santos Band 7:00 pm

msantos-band

“The acoustic, folk-pop fare is a far cry stylistically from what Santos contributed to many tracks on Fiasco’s latest album, “The Cool.” However, the soulful underpinnings of his voice are what remain consistent, containing a versatility suitable for his singer/songwriter styling as well as R&B.” -Billboard Magazine

Waco Brothers 5:30 pm

Waco brothers

Ladies and gentlemen, quite possibly the best live rock band on the planet. We’ve seen them a hundred and sixty seven times, and they never fail to entertain with their train wreck approach to country. Subtlety is for the weak, so they’ve chosen the path of optimum mayhem and tomfoolery. In their rollicking career, they have been called everything from the flagship act of the alternative country ‘movement’ to pure butchery. Both are likely to be correct.

Their mix of hellfire country and mournful punk truly inspire. They are working to save music so you don’t have to.

Superchunk to headline Taste of Randolph Street festival 8pm June 20th

For many of us alive and listening 20 years ago, Superchunk and Merge Records were our first introduction to what is now defined as indie by the music industry.

There was a time when the most careerist thing a band did was buy their own PA or van, and during that time, Superchunk made music that you bought in a store and met like a friend—music that felt like someone a few towns or states over had finally heard how you were feeling. In their May 2010 25th anniversary issue, Spin Magazine deemed Superchunk’s DIY anthem “Slack Motherfucker” the indie rallying cry of the last 25 years. All Music Guide describes Superchunk as “emblematic of the true spirit of American indie rock,” a status which is enhanced by lead singer Mac McCaughan and bass player Laura Ballance’s “day jobs” as co-owners of Merge Records, one of the most well-respected independent labels around.

Preparing a new album to be released later this year, Superchunk are excited to be returning to Chicago for the first time in over four years to headline the Taste of Randolph Street Festival.

“More than 20 years in and still nobody matches Superchunk when it comes to pogo-punk delights.” ~Washington Post

Food

Restaurants Showcased at Taste of Randolph:

Vivo- When it comes to true Italian cuisine, few restaurants rival this rustic, yet stylish, veteran. Vivo opened its doors almost two decades ago, triggering a culinary landslide in the Randolph Street market district, the impact of which is still being felt today.

La Sardine- La Sardine is Chicago’s favorite Parisian Café! Since opening in September of 1998, La Sardine has been delighting everyone at the Taste of Randolph with their truly delicious and authentic French Cuisine.

One of the West Loop’s great gems and always a big Taste of Randolph favorite. De Cero which translates into “from scratch” is exactly that. Everything is made from scratch, from the crema to the lime juice to the tortillas being hand pressed to order. It’s all fresh. You can taste the difference here, no other festival this summer will serve up authentic and healthy south of the border cuisine like this.

Veerasway brings modern Indian cuisine and features healthy renditions Bombay street foods. How perfect for the Taste of Randolph, delicious Bollywood Bites while enjoying the World Music Beats and dancing in the streets.

Market delivers on both of America’s favorite summer past times. Baseball and outdoor seating. Market is enjoying its 2nd season and a great asset to the Taste of Randolph line-up.

The WestEnd is the ideal place to meet up with friends and has become one of the most popular places around. Come to the Taste of Randolph and get a taste of their great food while you meet someone equally special.

Nicholas Quality Meats- This great meat wholesaler has been serving  the Randolph Market community for longer than any of us have lived here. Gus, the owner has been such a huge hit at the Taste of Randolph over the years that he started going to all the other festivals, but here you can see his butcher shop as you enter the main gate of the Taste of Randolph Street.

Tomato Head Pizza- After conquering the DePaul area of Lincoln Park, this relatively new Chicago pizza joint favorite set its sites on Randolph Street in The West Loop. Here is a great chance to try a slice while checking out one of the festivals nightly headliners; Lovehammers, Lucero and Superchunk.

Alhambra Palace Restaurant- Once you taste the delicious foods you will want to run over to the Alhambra to experience the Palace, more amazing than anything you’ve seen, even in Vegas. You will be transported in time, flying on ancient Persian carpet through Egypt, Morocco and Lebanon.

There is always a great time to be had at Pasha, the food, the drinks and the music of Spain featuring The Bandoleros, who will be performing  Friday June 18th at the Taste of Randolph Street.

As one of the first chef-owned independent restaurants in the Wicker Park area, Wishbone boasted large portions of amazingly fresh food and quickly became a popular hangout for artists and local businesses of the area.
