So Chicago, we’ve almost made it to the third month of 2021, meaning Chicago St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner! If you’re looking for some fun and safe things to do for your St. Patty’s, you’ve come to the right place. Read below for some things to do in Chicago this St. Patrick’s Day!
- Watch the Chicago River dyeing. Every year, Chicagoans love to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by dyeing the Chicago River green! This is an annual tradition that dates back over fifty years ago. A whole quarter mile of the waterway is dyed, from Columbus Drive to State Street. Get there early to snag a spot, as it starts at 9 am (date TBD) and will go on for about 45 minutes. Go check out the green river this year!
- Participate in the South Side’s “Shamrock Our Blocks.” In spirit of the cancelled South Side’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, the parade committee is hosting this house-decorating contest! To enter, take a photo of your decorations and register it online by March 4th. With your $20 registration fee, you’ll get a yard sign announcing your participation, and proceeds from the contest will support local businesses! A panel of judges will choose winners based on the entry photos. The top five will receive gift cards to local businesses, and the grand prize will be $1000 in cash and $1000 in gift cards! Winners will be announced on their Facebook page on the 13th!
- Watch the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade (virtually). Due to the pandemic, the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee is hosting their parade virtually, and you can enjoy it live streamed from the comfort of your home! The livestream will feature scenes from past years’ parades as well as the dyeing of the Chicago River. It’s scheduled at 1 pm on March 13th. Links to be provided on their website soon.
- Go on a St. Patrick’s Day Run. If you’re a runner, register to race in a St. Patrick’s Day race! You can use our sister company iLoveRuns’ website to find a race near you. There are 5Ks, half marathons, marathons, and more!
Have fun and be safe this St. Patrick’s Day, Chicago! Remember to check out our other blog posts at www.starevents.com/blog.
