Will Chicago Go Into Lockdown? Has it already? As Illinois Coronavirus cases continue to increase rapidly by the day, governor Pritzker has put Illinois on an advisory stay at home order. Will a second lockdown follow? Read more for further information.
Almost exactly a year ago on November 17, 2019, the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed. One year later, COVID-19 has reached a peak higher than we could have imagined, and only continues to get worse. This past weeked, Illinois surpassed over 10,000 coronavirus cases for the 10th consecutive day, and state health officials announced 10,631 new coronavirus infections on Sunday.
This flow of new cases have led Illinois hospitals to treating the most COVID-19 patients they’ve ever had. Cook County accounted for 21 of Sunday’s 72 fatalities. Only 16 of those deaths reported statewide were among people under the age of 70, and only six were under 60.
So far, a handful of other states have gone back into a second lockdown including Michigan, Washington State, and California. This second lockdown consists of working remotely from home, closing all indoor bars and restaurants, no gatherings of more than 25, etc. Governor Pritzker has threatened to put Illinois in a second lockdown, but has put an advisory stay at home order in the meantime. By looking at the pattern from other states that are currently going into a second lockdown, Illinois should be soon to follow. In the meantime, it is crucial to the health of yourself and others that a mask is worn at all times when in the presence of another person. Continue to practice socially distant precautions, and only leave your house for necessary purchases only. The more people that stay in their homes and stop the spread, the faster we can go back to normal life. Stay safe everyone!
