While vaccine eligibility is no laughing matter, Chicago’s best and brightest comedy institutions are reopening. If you’re ready to get back out in the world and are seeking some live entertainment (and much needs ha-ha’s), here’s a list of Spring reopenings in Chicago!
The Second City – reopening May 7th
Head over to 1616 N Wells St for their “Happy To Be Here” return show. Enjoy some improv, sketch comedy, and a promise of “some good, clean (or at the very least…ultra-hygienic) togetherness.” Shows are Thursdays at 7PM & 10PM and Sundays at 3PM & 7PM.
The troupe continues to offer improv and acting classes online with some in-person!
Laugh Factory Chicago – Open
3175 N Broadway Ave is operating 7 days a week. With mask requirements, temperature checks, and disinfectant procedures in place, get comfortable with veteran and up-and-coming stand-up acts. There may even be a celebrity guest, or two!
Music Box Theatre – Open
The neon lights are once again welcoming patrons to 3733 N Southport Avenue for independent, foreign, cult, and classic films. With social distancing firmly in place, you can still enjoy the crunch of your popcorn in reduced capacity screening room and theatre. If you still want to stay at home in your own make-shift theatre, check out Music Box Direct for streaming opportunities.
Lips Drag Show – Open
Need some sparkle back in your life? 2229 S. Michigan Avenue is back on the town with the #1 Drag Show in Chicago. You’re recommended to make your reservations up to two weeks in advance (walk-ins are welcomed, but not guaranteed) for dinner, drinks, and drama. Opt for the Prix Fixe menu on Friday and Saturday or gear up for the Gospel Brunch on Sunday mornings.
