The last year has muddled the difference between “homespace” and “workspace.” Many of our workspaces have moved home, so is there even a difference?
Regardless of this question, there is still value in decorating the spaces that you occupy. Personality and warmth make one feel like he or she is safe and at home. Decoration and the spaces we occupy influence our psychology and can even change our biology. According to Psychology Today, an absence of light, alters a person’s circadian rhythm. The circadian rhythm is a series of patterns that inform our sleep-wake cycle. The disruption of this can produce “delirium and cognitive confusion.” Additionally, colors have the ability to influence the outcomes of our mood. One example is that yellow has the potential to “boost one’s mood and create a sense of optimism.” Alternatively, blue, and its various hues, can calm a person. Other colors like red or orange evoke discomfort and grab attention. A fusion of colors together can even prompt feelings of heat.
The best ways to incorporate color into your space is by visiting some of the country’s best art festivals. Check out this list to bring some life to your white walls – and maybe induce a little happiness while you’re at home or in your cubicle.
