It’s a celebration of Chicago pizza! Incredibly, there has never been an event like it, dedicated to the 10 styles of pizza offered in Chicago. Sicilian, Detroit, Deep-Dish, Tavern, Stuffed and Artisan are just a few of the styles scheduled to be featured. A prestigious list of 40 pizza makers has been curated by Steve Dolinsky, author of “Pizza City USA” and “The Ultimate Chicago Pizza Guide”; Host/Producer of the “Pizza City” podcast, and Founder of Pizza City USA Tours. Each day, 20 pizza makers will be cranking out fresh pizzas from 12 – 9 p.m., thanks to 10 on-site ovens from PizzaMaster. Each oven will be dedicated to a particular style, with two adjacent pizza makers attached to it.
Dolinsky has also created a series of educational seminars that will take place inside Plumbers Hall both days, including The Dough Whisperers, a VIP panel of some of the nation’s most respected pizzaiolos: Dan Richer (Razza, NJ), Chris Bianco (Pizzeria Bianco, AZ) and Laura Meyer (Capo’s, CA). This panel will occur both days, and be moderated by Francisco Migoya, the co-author of “Modernist Pizza.” Other panels include “Women in Pizza”; “Who Really Created Deep-Dish?” and “Making Great Pizza at Home.”
A VIP area will have an additional oven with two extra pizza makers, featuring some of the smaller, independent operators such as Bungalow by Middlebrow, Spacca Napoli and a special collaboration between Professor Pizza and his mentor, Tony Gemignani of Tony’s in San Francisco.
Book signings, a pizza merch tent and pizza-themed art will also be featured. The charitable partner for the Chicago Pizza Festival is Slice Out Hunger, which will be receiving a donation based on the net proceeds of the event.
