(Taste of Randolph, 2014)
The sun is always shining and the night is forever young once summer arrives. Everyone is out and about, looking to fill their schedules with excitement. Nothing sounds better than taking a break from the office to enjoy time with the family while jamming out to your favorite band and snacking on amazing food.
Good news: Festival season has arrived and it’s time to explore your options!!!
Festival season offers all types of entertainment that fulfill everyone’s interests. These events allow you to escape to a different reality, to focus solely on enjoying yourself and your neighborhood. Fests offer all types of entertainment including: various performers, artisan and merchant vendors, tons of delicious food options and family friendly activities. The attention is on you, you are the attendee and event planners like us work really hard to satisfy you.
Festivals are all about the fun and games, so come prepared! It’s time to get pumped up and prepare for yourself for all that is in store. Here are some quick tips and reminders on how to get ready and pack for a day full of festival fun.
Connections are key.
No one leaves the house without their cell phone anymore. It’s important to have a phone on you so that others can get a hold of you, but it’s also a good idea to tell others what you are up to. Many people also like to keep their friends up to date about their activities via social media. Did you really go to a festival if you didn’t Instagram about it? Tweet using the festival’s #hashtag, upload a status and share photos of the festival with your Facebook friends as well.
Bring plenty of cash!
You are going to be overwhelmed with all sorts of entertainment at events and it wouldn’t be a full experience unless you participated in all of it. You will need cash to enjoy all types of different foods to munch on, to purchase unique trinkets, to rock out to certain bands, and to take part in other activities. Some fests also ask for donations and it’s always nice to show consideration for your neighborhood and the organizations benefiting from the event.
Keep calm and put your dancing shoes on.
Even if you just got a pair of the coolest, cutest shoes around, they might not be the best fit for festival grounds. Let’s get real… you will be on your feet all day, you will be walking around A LOT, your feet will swell, and you will be tired by the end of the day. You are also going to want to dance all day and all night so it’s important to come prepared with comfortable footwear. Wear a pair you can walk in and that cushion your feet, trust me you will thank yourself the next day.
Be Prepared. Rain or Shine.
If we are focusing on events in Chicago, we can all agree that the weather is pretty unpredictable. Layering up can never hurt because as the weather warms up, you can shed clothing as the day goes on. If there are some clouds in the sky, an umbrella might not be a bad idea. If the sun is blinding you, sunglasses and sunblock are always going to come in handy. When in doubt, check the hourly weather forecast!
Eat. Drink. Smile.
Come prepared to eat. You are going to want to try all kinds of different treats and cold beverages. There are so many options that’ll satisfy everyone’s tastebuds. At festivals, there is no such thing as eating too much. Everyone will walk away satisfied, and with a smile, from the tasty entrees.
