In July 2019, the inaugural Chalk Howard Street in Rogers Park became Chicago’s first and only major chalk art festival! Back and better than ever this August, this fest will have something for everyone.

Presented by the Rogers Park Business Alliance, Chalk Howard Street Fest features world-renowned 3D and 2D chalk artists, food by local purveyors, opportunities for amateur artists and family-friendly music and entertainment. Get there early to watch incredible art be created in front of your eyes, or join the fun and chalk your own masterpiece! Later in the afternoon you will even be able to jump into the art and feel the magic come to life.

Local bands will be playing live music all afternoon and evening, the air will be filled with delicious food from local restaurants, and a kids chalk area will keep the kids entertained while you shop at vendor booths from nearby stores. This fest is truly not one to be missed!

Featured 3D Artists

Amanda-Lee Harris

Los Angeles based artist, Amanda-Lee Harris Gibbs has been a self-proclaimed artist since her elementary school days. Amanda works with many mediums but has recently discovered a newfound love for 3D anamorphic murals and street art. She loves creating pieces people can literally climb into and watch come alive. She hopes her work inspires and brings a smile to your face.

Jessi Queen

Queen Art and Design is a collaborative started by Jessi Queen. With her husband Zachary Herndon and their chalk friends, she strives to build community and share the chalk art with others. She specializes in large chalk murals, 3D chalk art, chalk workshops, and interactive art. Designing experiences has always been Jessi’s passion and she spends her day job as a UX designer at Sapient Razorfish. Outside of work you can find her chalking all over the US and Europe. She works at art festivals, trade shows, music festivals and private events.

Shawn McCann

As an artist, Shawn McCann is one who loves to explore the relationship of art, space, and interaction. Having graduated the Minneapolis College of Art and Design with a BFA, Shawn has grown into a multi-media, multi-disciplinary artist whose work explores color, texture, form, and content. This approach has led to the many areas in which Shawn’s work has encompassed including 2D and 3D street painting, murals, fine art, children’s books, installation art, temporary and permanent art and commercial illustration.

Zach Herndon

Zach is a chalk artist who was first introduced to chalking through his wife, Jessi Queen, at the 2011 SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival. He spent the next four years working side by side with Jessi with her street paintings, focusing primarily on color blocking and obsessive straight edges. Zach and Jessi have been chalking together annually at the Bragg Jam music festival since 2012.

Harmony Harris

Harmony Harris is a SoCal native and chalk art hobbyist. Often working in tandem with her sister, as part of Wandering Brushes – she enjoys creating playful, interactive and 3d art. Art remains a welcome escape from the mundane for her, and she is happy to share this with others.

Chalk Howard Street is just steps away from the Howard Red Line stop.

FROM CTA  BUSES

If you’re planning on taking the bus from the North or South, you can take the #22 Clark Street bus to the Howard Red Line CTA Station. If you are coming from the West, take the #97 Howard Bus and get off at Clark & Howard.
